Well, since I have seen an overwhelming positive reaction to how I characterize Samus, I'm quite nervous about doing it right. So give me a ding about what you think.
Pardon me, kupo. How did Samus know Ramzas' family was the Beoulves? He didn't mention it, and didn't say anything which would have prompted her to mention them as family. As Samus has just arrived in the city as well, there is no IC way she would have even known he even had a family. He might be an orphan, for all she knew - that comment seemed rather infomoddy to me.
Before that, however, in your second response to him - this one. I don't see Samus, of all people, mentioning family that callously. In canon (excluding Other M), she is never seen bringing up her family to a stranger, or family in general - even during the Chozo Scans in Prime 1, which would have been a cool time to include it, but whatever. The closest is in the Manga, and that's when she's screaming at Ridley about how he murdered them. She doesn't speak of it to her companions during the Manga, and that's the only real source of seeing how she'd react to other people.
I know it is difficult to think about these sort of things when characterizing a silent protagonist - I've got a lot of notes on Hilda for when I app her, for example, and I'm sure I'll miss something - but this seems rather out-of-character for the character you've built around Samus.
I find the bringing up of family something clearly meant to make Ramza admit his family is connected to this, and that is not something I wish to be revealed yet.
I'm using a rather basic defense mechanism actually because he brought up his family.
She's trying to push aside any idea of family and she's projecting this on others. She hasn't quite come to terms with her pain in any reasonable manner and thus treats any mention of a family as a threat. Why she makes the attempt to treat familial ties that way.
She also has no idea what his family is. She wasn't trying to connect his family to anything.
...He didn't bring up his family in the beginning. And that's the issue I have!
Plus - in Metroid Prime 3, Samus is more the sort to not really speak as a defense mechanism - she doesn't even let out a scream by the final time she sees one of her friends taken by the Phazon, if I recall correctly. She also wasn't the sort to push away family in the manga, or any other media she's appeared in.
Though I'm loathe to mention it, the Baby Metroid shows that in spades in Super Metroid, along with her happy relationship with the Chozo. Would somebody pushing away family and seeing it as weak be happy with bird family? She even holds nostalgia for the times she spent with them, as shown by the way she looks at the statue in Metroid: Zero Mission. And as shown in other Metroid media, like the official Manga I keep on bringing up, she really doesn't have issues with losing her family. After defeating Ridley and Mother Brain for the first time, she had dealed with those issues, and had accepted her role as a Bounty Hunter and savior of the galaxy.
She also doesn't push away close working relationships, shown in Hunters and Prime 3. She didn't hesitate to work with GF during Prime 3, even after the Dark Samus incident.
Anyways, like I stated in the second comment, I misread and mistook your post. I'd correct the problem if I could.
As for talking about the other things, I'm kind of out of it right now so suffice to say your words will be taken into consideration and some things probably will change.
