...He didn't bring up his family in the beginning. And that's the issue I have!
Plus - in Metroid Prime 3, Samus is more the sort to not really speak as a defense mechanism - she doesn't even let out a scream by the final time she sees one of her friends taken by the Phazon, if I recall correctly. She also wasn't the sort to push away family in the manga, or any other media she's appeared in.
Though I'm loathe to mention it, the Baby Metroid shows that in spades in Super Metroid, along with her happy relationship with the Chozo. Would somebody pushing away family and seeing it as weak be happy with bird family? She even holds nostalgia for the times she spent with them, as shown by the way she looks at the statue in Metroid: Zero Mission. And as shown in other Metroid media, like the official Manga I keep on bringing up, she really doesn't have issues with losing her family. After defeating Ridley and Mother Brain for the first time, she had dealed with those issues, and had accepted her role as a Bounty Hunter and savior of the galaxy.
She also doesn't push away close working relationships, shown in Hunters and Prime 3. She didn't hesitate to work with GF during Prime 3, even after the Dark Samus incident.
